RECC

The aim of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code is to ensure that consumers wishing to install a small-scale heat or power generation unit for their homes have the necessary confidence and service standards so that they can make an informed choice.

RECC members are firms selling or leasing small-scale renewable or low carbon heat or power generation unit who have agreed to comply with the Renewable Energy Consumer Code.

The Code is backed by the Trading Standards Institute (TSI) as part of a self-regulation initiative, the Consumer Codes Approval Scheme. TSI has set out the core criteria for consumer codes in its Core Criteria and Guidance which you can find here.

The Consumer Code, the Consumer Guidelines, and the other guidance documents on the website are designed to help consumers get advice on generation solutions without being subjected to negative marketing/sales tactics and to ensure high standards of service before, during, and after a contract is agreed.

The Consumer Code links closely to the Microgeneration Certification Scheme installer and product certification scheme. Both of these are run by the Licensee, Gemserv, on behalf of Government Any member of the Code member, including all those working on their behalf, are expected also to comply with these schemes, or if they sub-contract the work, to ensure that those that carry out the work on their behalf comply with these schemes.

Trustmark

TrustMark is the Government Endorsed Quality Scheme that covers work a consumer chooses to have carried out in or around their home.

When a consumer chooses a TrustMark Registered Business, they are engaging a business that has been thoroughly vetted to meet required standards, and has made a commitment to good customer service.

All TrustMark Registered Businesses commit to working to the required standards of the Government Endorsed Quality scheme, as laid out in the TrustMark Code of Conduct.

These businesses are monitored and checked by their Scheme Providers, all of which work to the stringent Framework Operating Requirements document as stipulated by TrustMark.

TrustMark requires Registered Businesses to have an inspection no less than every three years by a qualified independent inspector.  The frequency of these inspections will vary between Scheme Providers and many will be visited more frequently than this.

Additionally, all Registered Businesses must have their insurances and similar documents checked each year by their Scheme Provider.

TrustMark operates under licence from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). It is overseen by an independent Board ensuring adequate representation of all the industry sectors that TrustMark works with.  This Board is supplemented by experts from a wide range of industries, applying fresh insight and knowledge to the general running of TrustMark and specific projects and problem-solving.

The Board is supported by Councils that will provide a robust structure, allowing each sector to feedback directly into the Board and ensure proper engagement with the strategic direction of TrustMark as an organisation.
